Rotating Events in Our Time
Our time is shaped in many ways by spinning events such as Earth rotating around the Sun, or shift workers switching between night and day. Some are obvious, and others are less so.
The majority of people are aware for instance, that the Earth revolves around its axis approximately once every 24 hours. But what’s less known is that the speed of the rotation varies somewhat and scientists have been able measure using atomic clocks. This variation makes the solar day appear shorter or longer than what it should. Atomic clocks have to adjust the time periodically to compensate for this. This change is known as a leap second.
The Coriolis effect is a different instance of a rotational event. It is the regular wobbling that occurs as the Earth’s rotating pole revolves around the Sun. This wiggle helps to shape the rules of weather patterns. It explains why fun park rides such as Ferris wheel and carousels should be built with an incredibly strong side-to-side bar, also known as an axle.
Similarly, job rotation exposes employees to different work environments and roles that can expand their capabilities and professional growth. Changes in shifts frequently can affect team dynamics and stress can be caused by employees trying to adjust to new circumstances. To help ease these issues organizations can implement strategies like open communication and wellness programs that ensure a healthy workplace environment for their workforce. In addition, they can also think about using scheduling software to help manage shift changes in a seamless manner.
